#1: Good or evil? Canton-bound. Ascension linked to versions of the Sabbath.

Info: First heard on Thursday, 1/5/12, at 3:18pm EST.

Hints:
@garychardonnay: "No NFL connection here, at least not that I know of."
@garychardonnay: "We haven't set our schedule yet... so no Thursday connection at this point."
@garychardonnay: "No NFL. No Hall of Fame."
@garychardonnay: "Change your direction. #rooclue RT @Kevin_J_Hackett: @garychardonnay what about the second part of the clue? Dio reference?"
@garychardonnay: "No football. At all."
@garychardonnay: "You'd be wrong. RT @Duuubs: Pretty sure it's Judas Priest."
@garychardonnay: "@HiggyBear22 Yes. #rooclues" (in response to "Does the second part of the clue have anything at all to do with Black Sabbath or any relation to a song/member of the band?")
@garychardonnay: "@baconus66 I know!" (in response to "so yes to black sabbath but no to dio? that's confusing")
@garychardonnay: "@HiggyBear22 You said something I "liked" on the Inforoo boards."
@garychardonnay: "@billwhicher It would be nice if it were that simple." (in response to "is it The Black Keys? Cantons in Ohio, and theyre a big Ohio band...idk about the sabbath thing lol")
@garychardonnay: "No." (in response to "Is Mike Patton a better avenue to follow than Dio?")
@garychardonnay: "Not really." (in response to "would you say "version" is a good musical synonym for "sample"?")
Gary Chardonnay: "Smarty pants." (in response to ""Ascension linked to versions of the Sabbath" could mean that this band or artist first received recognition (ascension) because of covers (versions) of Black Sabbath songs.")
Gary Chardonnay: "Well, hello." (in response to a list of bands who recorded Black Sabbath covers)
@garychardonnay: "Sounds like I either made my clue too easy, or gave too many hints...." (confirmation that we have the answer!)

Links: Clue thread is here.

Answer: Mogwai (credit also goes to catfoodparty for being the first one to narrow down the Mogwai connection and jackson for fleshing it out even more!)

Logic: The first half refers to "Mogwai" meaning "evil spirit" in Cantonese, the second half refers to their Black Sabbath covers being at least partially reponsible for their initial rise in popularity.

#2: A name amongst the Titans. What's your favorite flavor?

Info: First heard on Tuesday, 1/10/12, at 1:15pm.

Hints:
@garychardonnay: "You best check yo-self before you wreck yo-self." (seemingly ruling out Battles)
@garychardonnay: "Wonder why everyone thinks "flavor" is ice cream?"
@garychardonnay: "Indeed it does!" (in response to "Does flavor have to do with anything edible?")
@garychardonnay: "It can be." (in response to "Is the edible... crunchy?")
@garychardonnay: "Nope." (in response to "Is the edible in clue 2 a type of candy?")
@garychardonnay: "Ha. It could be, on certain kinds of Mexican." (in response to "Is it something that can be used in mexican food?")
@garychardonnay: "All greek." (in response to "Are the titans football or greek related? Or neither?")
@garychardonnay: "Um. I'm not sure." (in response to "do Mars bars have flavors?")
@garychardonnay: "I've seen the correct answer for #rooclue 2."
@garychardonnay: "Go back to the beginning..."
Gary Chardonnay: "It's not the begin of creation, it's beginning of your logic here. You all have already guessed this one. You've got it - or at least you had it."

Links: Clue thread is here.

Answer: Battles

Logic: In Greek mythology, Atlas was one of the "second generation" of Titans; "Atlas" is the name of Battles' most well-known song. The second half of the clue refers to either flavors of ice cream and their song "Ice Cream," or flavors of lip gloss and their album Gloss Drop.

#3: The original simpleton, misspell the mini-liar.

Info: First heard on Thursday, 1/12/12, at 10:30am.

Hints:
@garychardonnay: "Nope." (in response to "is man the original simpleton?")
@garychardonnay: "Good guess, but no." (in response to "is a mini-liar a fibber?")
@garychardonnay: "Haha. No." (in response to "is the mini-liar someone who lies about being mini?")
@garychardonnay: "No, but that's clever." (in response to "is mini-liar an anagram?")
@garychardonnay: "Well, the mini-liar is physically mini. But I'm perplexed as to why you think it's a person..."
Gary retweeted this: @mcbeatzthebopit: "Misspelled mini-liar = mini-lyre = banjo/mandolin/ukulele?"
@garychardonnay: "Getting closer." (in response to "is the "original simpleton" an animal?")
@garychardonnay: "That seems like the obvious answer, doesn't it?" (in response to "It has to be a Dodo, right?")
@garychardonnay: "Can you make the rest of it fit?" (in response to "Andrew Bird?")
@garychardonnay: "Think larger..." (in response to "Should we be thinking of something on the cellular/atomic size scale for the original simpleton?")
@garychardonnay: "It's got nothing to do with a fish. Or a Phish."
Gary Chardonnay: "To solve this clue, you'll have to split up "original" and the "simpleton." The simpleton is of the avian variety, however." Gary Chardonnay: "I've seen the right answer. Very nice."

Links: Clue thread is here.

Guesses: Frontrunners seem to be tUnE-yArDs and Old Crow Medicine Show. Gary has said he's seen the correct answer, but we're not yet sure which it is.

#4: Trained: a cloth sack state of mind. Savor the queen's delight.

Info: First heard on Tuesday, 1/17/12, at 5:15pm.

Hints:
@garychardonnay: "nope." (in response to "does the first portion pertain to sleep?")
@garychardonnay: "Something else." (in response to "Are we talking about the herb/plant "queen's delight" or something else?")
@garychardonnay: "How would he fit the rest of the clue." (in response to a guess of Paul McCartney)
@garychardonnay: "Clever. Clever." (in response to "Does trained = choo choo trains?")
@garychardonnay: "Yes." (in response to "is "queen" lower cased for a reason?")
@garychardonnay: "No, kitty kitty." (in response to "queen = meow?")
Gary retweeted this: @RobDowg: "queen = bee?"
Gary retweeted this: @cokes311: "if the queen is a bee, is her delight honey?"
Gary retweeted this: @katzivanovich: "Budai, the chinese deity means cloth sack. So someone who's trained their mind/or who's Buddhist? Getting close?"
Gary Chardonnay: "Sorry all. Not FlyLo. You won't find this answer on Wiki. You're right about the train, and the Buddhism, and the nectar, but not the artist. Let me throw this one out there, what loves nectar and flies by night?"

Links: Clue thread is here.

Answer: Fruit Bats

Logic: Well, the second half refers to fruit bats eating nectar. As for the first half...um. Somebody explain it to me?

#5: Push in the IV. Follow the vowels to the coming of age.

Info: First heard on Friday, 1/20/12, at 4:35pm.

Hints:
@garychardonnay: "Number 4" (in response to "IV= number 4, intravenous, or letters?")
@garychardonnay: "Nope." (in response to "is 4 the number of albums the band has?")

Links: Clue thread is here.

Guesses: Nothing very solid so far - as always, let me know if you disagree!

#6: I am that I am, a performing cadaver. Look to the eye of the storm.

Info: First heard on Tuesday, 1/24/12, at 4:55pm.

Hints:
@garychardonnay: "#Rooclue #6 does not have "dead" in the artist name/title/whatever you're going to call him/her. #genderneutralsentencesarehard"

Links: Clue thread is here.

Guesses: Nothing very solid so far - as always, let me know if you disagree!

#7: Offerings from the garden; "I think you're God."

Info: First heard on Thursday, 1/26/12, at 2:45pm.

Hints:
@garychardonnay: "Nope." (in response to "does the clue refer to apples?")
@garychardonnay: "Sure doesn't." (in response to "does the "I think you're God." refer to the movie What the Bleep Do We Know?")
@garychardonnay: "Not Chicago, not New Jersey. "The garden" isn't a city or state."
@garychardonnay: "The offering is not a fruit or a vegetable."
@garychardonnay: "You can find the garden in the core of the big apple."
@garychardonnay: "No sports affiliation as far as I know."
@garychardonnay: ""I think you're God." is a bit more theatrical."
@garychardonnay: "Nicely done." (in response to ""i think you're god" sylvia?")
@garychardonnay: "Not edible." (regarding the offerings)

Links: Clue thread is here.

Guesses: Based on the second half, Miike Snow and Antlers are possibilities, but so far no strong connection to the first half for either.

#8: In another trip to space we wake. A speckled lad leads us down a bewitching path.

Info: First heard on Tuesday, 1/31/12, at 8:15pm. This clue refers back to clue #1 from last year, so brush up on that clue!

Hints: None yet.

Guesses: Nothing significant yet.
